Volumise, plump and smooth your skin with dermal fillers
Wrinkle filling injections or dermal fillers are products that are injected into the dermis (the deeper layer of the skin) to improve the skin’s appearance.
Dermal fillers work by filling in defects such as creases, lines, wrinkles and scars or can be used to plump lips or noses. They are injected directly into the skin underneath the defect to fill it in and elevate the skin surface to make it look even and smooth. Common areas treated are around the mouth, cheeks, eyes, and brow. They are also used to redefine lips that have lost their body or simply to enlarge them and make them appear fuller.
What are dermal fillers?
The skin is made up of 2 main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the top layer which contains the skin cells and the dermis is the deeper layer which is much thicker and contains layers of connective tissue and elastin fibres. Dermal fillers are used to fill the creases and wrinkles that have been produced on your skin over time.
Why would I want lip fillers?
Will they hurt?
Patients are offered the choice of pain relief options including topical / local anaesthetic to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Some mild soreness may be experienced over the next day or so, especially for “first timers”, but this settles readily with painkillers. Often, there is no discomfort at all afterwards.
Which filler will I need?
There are a number fillers that can be used and depending on skin types, the area and types of lines to be treated (not all products are suited to all areas). Other variables to be considered would be the volume required and the presence of any medical or skin conditions.
Thanks to modern medicine we now have a greater choice of products than ever before. This allows us the flexibility to choose the most appropriate product for each you and to be able to make the treatment more cost effective for your individual needs.
How will I look afterwards?
Immediately after the treatment, the area treated may look reddened, slightly raised, perhaps some needle puncture marks and occasionally a bruise. These will settle with 1 to 2 days and any tiny bruises will settle within 3 to 4 days. Makeup may be worn 24hrs post treatment. Depending on the type of filler used most results are almost immediate, however, some can gradually take form over time. During your consultation, Dr Calfas and Madeline will discuss the different filler options with you to determine what is best suited for your skin.
