A Coronavirus is a type of virus that affects birds, mammals and humans. It affects the respiratory tract and is usually associated with the common cold, pneumonia, bronchitis and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Covid-19 is a new viral strain of a coronavirus. Like all illnesses, there are those who are more at risk of becoming seriously ill – the very young and the very old, those who are immunocompromised, and those with a history of respiratory conditions and illness.

The virus is usually spread through the following ways:

  • close contact with an infectious person
  • contact with droplets from an infected person’s cough or sneeze
  • touching objects or surfaces (like doorknobs or tables) that have cough or sneeze droplets from an infected person, and then touching your mouth or face

Symptoms can include:

  • sneezing
  • runny nose
  • fatigue
  • cough
  • fever
  • sore throat
  • exacerbated asthma
If you develop any of these symptoms, you should see your doctor for testing, and self-isolate until your results come back.
Coronavirus symptoms

Currently, there is no vaccination for Covid-19. However, you can do the following to help protect
yourself and your community:

  • Follow proper handwashing advise – use soap and water and wash for 2 minutes
  • Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough
  • Boost your immune system with vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Echinacea, Lactoferrin and Olive Leaf
