Seborrheic Keratosis Removal (Seb K)

Confidence and skin renewed with sun damage removed

Seborrheic Keratosis (Seb K) is a benign (ie. non-cancerous) skin growth that usually appears "stuck on the skin surface" as a waxy or wart-like lesion that may range in colour from skin colour to black. They are very common particularly on the face and upper body, and often run in families as they are caused by a genetic predisposition, but sun exposure contributes to their appearance.

While they are harmless, people choose to remove them mainly for cosetic reasons as they can be unsightly, particularly when multiple, or because their appearance can be worrying to some.

What is the most effective treatment for Seb K's?

While treatment for Seb K's can include removal through procedures like cryotherapy, electrosurgery, or laser therapy, we find the safest, most effective and quickest removal, as well giving the best cosmetic results with leaving minimal if any residual marks, is via curettage under topical anaesthetic cream. Surgical curettage will leave a temporary superficial abrasion that requires dressing with a bandaid or similar until healed in approximately one week.

One treatment is usually sufficient to clear the lesion(s) permanently.

Benefits

Benefits of treatment include improved aesthetics and relief from potential discomfort caused by irritation from exercise and sweating, clothing, necklaces and the like. The treatment is easy to perform and results are usually excellent.

Treatment guide

What is involved?

Usually the application of a suitable numbing cream for 30 or 40 minutes beforehand is enough for comfortable removal of the lesions using a fine hand held surgical curette. Procedures are often quick with minimal discomfort.

Does treatment require downtime?

The removed lesions will bleed slightly for a couple of minutes, then a band-aid with petroleum jelly is applied for a week until the lesions have healed over. You will still be able to conduct most of your daily activities but will not be able to swim or soak in a bath until healed.

Pricing guide

Pricing depends on the size, location and number of lesions. Prices start from $390.

Considerations

Most people of all ages are suitable to undergo this procedure, there are very few contraindications.
