What is the Gold PTT procedure?

Step 1: Gold microparticles are applied to the skin surface.
Step 2: A sonophoresis device uses ultrasound waves to guide the particles into the pores over 10 minutes.
Step 3: Any remaining particles on the skin surface are removed.
Step 4: A 1064 nm long pulse Nd:YAG laser is applied, activating the particles to produce gentle, controlled heat inside the pore reducing sebaceous gland activity and clearing the skin safely.

How does Gold PTT treat acne vulgaris

To understand how Gold PTT works, it helps to first understand photothermal therapy. Photothermal therapy is a light based treatment that uses laser energy to heat and destroy targeted cells within the skin. It works differently from older light treatments like photodynamic therapy, or PDT. PDT relies on oxygen to interact with the target tissue, which limits how deep it can reach and often causes noticeable redness afterwards. Photothermal therapy does not need oxygen, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin while being gentler on the surface.

Gold PTT takes this science a step further by combining photothermal therapy with patented gold microparticles. These particles are extremely small 120 nm in diameter with a silica core and a gold shell and are designed to sit precisely within the hair follicle when applied to the skin. When a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser is directed over the treatment area, the gold particles absorb the laser energy and convert it into heat. This heat is delivered directly to the sebaceous gland, reducing its activity without causing damage to the skin tissue around it.

Effects of Gold PTT and the treatment process

The main goal of Gold PTT is to reduce excess sebum production through selective photothermolysis. With less oil being produced, the follicle stays cleaner and breakouts become less frequent over time. Because the treatment works on one of the root causes of acne rather than just the symptoms on the surface, results tend to last much longer than topical treatments alone.
