Risks & Recovery Information
Risks and Recovery Information
All medical and cosmetic procedures involve some level of risk. Side effects, healing time, and outcomes can vary between individuals depending on the treatment, the area treated, and your personal health history.
Common shortterm effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, sensitivity, or mild discomfort. These effects are often temporary and usually improve with time. Less common risks may include infection, allergic reaction, prolonged healing, changes in skin colour, uneven healing, or changes in sensation. In rare cases, more serious complications can occur.
Before undergoing any treatment, it is important to discuss your medical history, current medications, previous procedures, and any concerns with a qualified health practitioner. This helps ensure you are properly informed and that the treatment is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
Recovery can vary from person to person. Some treatments involve little downtime, while others may require a longer healing period. Following the aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner is important and may help support healing and reduce the risk of complications.
Please Note
The information on this page is intended as a general guide only.
It does not replace personalised medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Every patient is different, and your practitioner will advise you on the risks, expected recovery, and suitability of treatment based on your individual needs.
Treatment Risks and Recovery
Bunion Correction Surgery
Possible risks
Possible risks include swelling, bleeding, infection, delayed healing, stiffness, numbness, irritation to nearby nerves, scarring, or recurrence. Rare complications may include blood clots or reactions related to anaesthesia.
Recovery
Recovery varies depending on the procedure performed and your individual healing response. Rest, elevation, and reduced activity are usually important in the early stages. Swelling may continue for some time, and supportive footwear or physiotherapy may be recommended during recovery.
Hammer, Claw and Mallet Toe Correction
Possible risks
Possible side effects include pain, swelling, bruising, stiffness, scarring, or temporary nerve sensitivity. In some cases, the toe may not fully correct or may gradually change again over time. Infection and circulation related complications are uncommon but possible.
Recovery
Recovery will depend on the type of correction performed. Rest and elevation are commonly recommended after treatment. Walking may be possible in a protective shoe, with a gradual return to normal footwear based on healing and clinical advice.
Non Incisional Ear Reshaping (Otoplasty)
Possible risks
Possible side effects include bruising, swelling, tenderness, or temporary discomfort. Infection, minor scarring, or temporary changes in skin sensation may occur. In some cases, sutures may become noticeable or the final result may appear uneven.
Recovery
Mild swelling or bruising may occur during the first week. Pressure, rubbing, or trauma to the ears should be avoided while healing. Your practitioner will advise when it is appropriate to return to normal activities.
Corticosteroid Injections (Musculoskeletal Use)
Possible risks
Possible side effects include temporary pain, redness, bruising, flushing, or a short term increase in discomfort after the injection. Some people may also notice temporary mood changes or changes in blood sugar levels. Less common risks include infection, thinning of the skin, or skin colour changes.
Recovery
Some people notice improvement sooner than others. A short period of rest may be recommended after treatment before returning to normal activity, depending on the area treated and your practitioner’s advice.
Skin Lesion Removal
Possible risks
Possible risks include bleeding, bruising, infection, scarring, or changes in skin colour. In some cases, the lesion may return or further treatment may be required.
Recovery
Healing time depends on the size, depth, and location of the lesion. Patients are usually advised to keep the area clean, follow dressing instructions carefully, and protect the skin from sun exposure while healing.
Topical Therapy for Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis (IGH)
Possible risks
Temporary redness, dryness, irritation, or peeling may occur. Less commonly, pigment changes, mild scarring, infection, or allergic reaction may happen.
Recovery
The treated area may remain slightly red or flaky for several days. Gentle skincare and sun protection are usually recommended. More than one treatment session may sometimes be needed depending on the response.
Chemical Skin Peels (General)
Possible risks
Chemical peels may cause redness, warmth, dryness, tightness, peeling, or temporary sensitivity. Less common risks include infection, prolonged irritation, pigment changes, or scarring.
Recovery
Recovery depends on the depth and strength of the peel. The skin may feel tight, dry, or flaky for several days. Aftercare commonly includes gentle skincare, moisturising, and sun protection.
Light Chemical Peel
Possible risks
Possible side effects include mild redness, dryness, flaking, or temporary sensitivity. Irritation or changes in skin colour are less common.
Recovery
The skin may feel slightly dry or tight for a few days after treatment. Gentle cleansing, moisturising, and daily sun protection are generally recommended. Your practitioner will advise when makeup and active skincare can be resumed.
Medically Supervised Weight Management Program (using hCG Protocol)
Possible risks
Depending on the program and individual health factors, possible side effects may include fatigue, dizziness, headache, mood changes, or other effects associated with reduced calorie intake. Hormone related side effects may also occur in some patients.
Recovery / Follow Up

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Possible risks
Possible side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the treatment site. Infection or prolonged inflammation is uncommon but can occur.
Recovery
Mild swelling or redness may occur for a short period after treatment. Patients are often advised to keep the area clean and avoid products or activities that may irritate the skin in the first day or two.

Possible risks
These procedures may cause redness, swelling, sensitivity, or temporary darkening or lightening of the skin. Less common risks include blistering, burns, infection, or scarring.
Recovery
The skin may remain red or sensitive for a short period depending on the treatment performed. Sun protection and avoiding heat, exfoliation, or irritation are often recommended during recovery.
Medium Depth TCA Chemical Peel
Possible risks
Expected effects may include redness, warmth, tightness, and visible peeling. Less common risks include infection, scarring, or changes in pigmentation.
Recovery
Recovery is usually more noticeable than with a light peel. The skin may peel, feel tight, and appear red while healing. Picking or rubbing the skin should be avoided. Your practitioner will provide aftercare instructions and advise when your usual skincare routine can be resumed.
LED Light Therapy
Possible risks
LED light therapy is generally considered low risk. Temporary warmth, mild redness, or light sensitivity may occur in some individuals.

Injectable Soft Tissue Augmentation Procedures (using Prescription Only Medicines)
Possible risks
Possible side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, or small lumps at the injection site. Unevenness, movement of product, infection, allergic reaction, or delayed swelling may also occur. Rare but serious complications can include vascular compromise, tissue injury, or vision related symptoms.
Recovery
Swelling or bruising may occur and can take time to settle. Recovery varies depending on the area treated and individual response. Patients should seek urgent medical attention if they experience severe pain, unusual skin colour changes, or any visual disturbance after treatment.
