Pigmentation

The Procedure

GMC Cosmedical offers a range of treatments that aim to help improve the appearance of pigmentation concerns, including melasma, sunspots, age spots and hormonally driven pigmentation, as well as small depigmented white spots known as idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH). All procedures are performed in clinic by a qualified practitioner.

Pigmentation concerns vary widely between individuals. Your practitioner will recommend the most appropriate treatment and protocol based on the nature and severity of your individual presentation, as assessed during consultation.

In accordance with Australian regulations, specific treatment details and active ingredients will be discussed during your consultation.

  • Results: Individual outcomes vary and will be discussed with your practitioner during consultation.
  • Downtime: Varies depending on the treatment recommended, ranging from temporary redness for up to 24 hours to peeling and redness for approximately five to seven days. Your practitioner will advise what to expect based on your individual circumstances.
  • Discomfort: Sensations vary between individuals and treatments. Comfort options will be discussed with your practitioner prior to treatment.

Treatment Options

  • 1. Dermamelan Depigmentation Peel

An in-clinic depigmentation treatment that aims to help reduce the appearance of pigmentation and melasma while supporting a more even skin tone.

    • May be considered for melasma, sunspots, age spots and hormonally driven pigmentation
    • Most people experience peeling and redness for approximately five to seven days. Those with a stronger skin response may experience a slightly longer recovery period
    • Some warmth or mild sensitivity may be experienced following treatment, which typically settles within a day or two
  • 2. Fotona StarWalker Laser for Melasma

Fotona StarWalker laser technology is used to support the management of melasma, with treatment protocols selected according to the nature and severity of your presentation.

    • May be considered for melasma or uneven skin pigmentation
    • Skin Toning Protocol: minimal downtime, with a mild sunburn sensation and temporary redness that may occur for up to 24 hours following treatment
  • 3. White Spot Treatment (IGH)

A treatment that aims to improve the appearance of small depigmented white spots commonly found on sun exposed areas such as the chest, arms and legs.

    • May be considered for visible depigmented spots on sun exposed areas of the skin
    • Treated areas generally heal with minimal disruption to daily activities. Your practitioner will advise what to expect based on your individual circumstances

What To Expect

  • 1. Reduced Appearance of Pigmentation

The Dermamelan Depigmentation Peel and Fotona laser treatment may help reduce the visible appearance of pigmentation and melasma, including sunspots, age spots and hormonally driven pigmentation, supporting a more even and balanced skin tone over a course of treatments.

  • 2. More Even Skin Tone in Areas Affected by IGH

Treatment for IGH may help reduce the visible appearance of small depigmented white spots on sun exposed areas, contributing to a more even skin tone on affected areas such as the chest, arms and legs.

  • 3. Skin Luminosity & Evenness

By supporting skin renewal and addressing uneven pigmentation, treatment may help contribute to a brighter, more luminous complexion and improved overall skin tone over time.

  • 4. Tailored to Your Skin

These treatments may be suitable for a wide range of skin types. All procedures follow a thorough consultation and individual assessment, so the treatment approach is matched to your skin type, the type of pigmentation, and the size and extent of the affected areas.
